Over the past 75 years, the United Nations has progressively developed the framework of international law, mediated conflicts, stabilized world tensions, advanced human rights standards and saved lives. However, much remains to be done in order to eradicate the inequalities deepened by the pandemic and to continue the fight against the causes and effects of climate change. The statement is part of President Igor Dodon's speech, that he gave at the high-level UN General Assembly meeting, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the organization.

In a video message, the president said that, unfortunately, not all treaties are respected by member states and that security threats are becoming more and more complex. Discrimination, based on gender, origin, race, religion or disability, still persists in the world.

"These circumstances warrant the call of UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, to participate in a global dialogue on the future relevance of the UN. Certainly, public consultations are crucial for the Organization, as to maintain its importance and to better serve the needs of humanity, while allowing member states to increase their capacity to achieve sustainable development goals", said Igor Dodon.

"Today we adopt the Declaration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations. The text of this document is the product of discussion with members of our societies and is the result of solid negotiations between states. We all agreed on an ambitious roadmap for our common future", added Igor Dodon.

The President said that Moldova fully supports the collective effort to achieve the objectives set out in the Anniversary Declaration and is committed to contribute to the common solution to the major challenges facing the UN and the international community.
