Former Communist lawmaker Igor Dodon became a member of the Party of Socialists. In the second half of December, the party will hold a congress, where it will elect its administration. In a news conference on Wednesday, Igor Dodon said he hopes the congress will bring about a number of changes in the party, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Modernization is the party’s aim. The Socialists will be present in Parliament. It will be a new left force with socially-oriented values. It will be a team of defenders of statehood. The creation of the parliamentary group is only the beginning. The Communist Party will be marginalized as it does not want to modernize,” said Igor Dodon. He expressed his confidence that more ex-Communists will join the Party of Socialists and the list will be made public soon. Igor Dodon said it will include well-known, technocratic persons who have a positive image in Moldova and abroad. The candidates for the party’s administration will be fielded by December 18. Earlier this month, Igor Dodon left the Communist parliamentary group together with Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramchul and jointly formed the group of the Socialists in Parliament. Zinaida Greceanyi said she has not yet decided whether to join the Party of Socialists or not. Veronica Abramchuk is the president of honor of the Party of Socialists.
