Ilie Cazac, who was discharged from prison by the unconstitutional Transnistrian authorities, came to Chisinau, where he met with Prime Minister Vlad Filat and other Government officials, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué, the executive’s press service says the Prime Minister assured the young man that he and his family will benefit from the necessary medical assistance to recover and other assistance from the Government. Vlad Filat thanked Ilie Cazac for the decent behavior he had when he was held in prison, saying the Government of Moldova took all the necessary measures to set him free as soon as possible. “I thank you for being strong and resistant. We, for our part, will create the conditions needed for the country to be reintegrated. I apologize for the suffering you experienced and promise to make everything possible to prevent such cases,” said the Premier. For his part, Ilie Cazac approved of the effort made by the Moldovan constitutional authorities, saying the support provided to him and his family was very useful. This support helped him to easier overcome the detention period. “The Government helped us obtain the release of Ilie. We thank you for your involvement and for being concerned about the problems faced by the residents of Transnistria. We were and are citizens of Moldova,” said Ilie’s mother Stela Surchicean. A former employee of the Tighina-based Tax Inspectorate, the 26-year-old Ilie Cazac was arrested by representatives of the so-called Ministry of Security of the breakaway republic of Transnistria on March 19, 2010, being accused of treason and espionage for Moldova. On February 9, 2011, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. He was released on October 31.
