The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is concerned about the work done by the customs and tax services in Moldova because they inappropriately manage the collection of taxes and leave space for tax evasion, corruption and other negative phenomena. Instead, the non-professionalism of these bodies is covered by the Government’s request to increase certain taxes. Related statements were made by Acting President and Head of Parliament Marian Lupu in the program “In profunzime” on PRO TV in connection with Prime Minister Vlad Filat’s demand to dismiss Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“In a meeting on Friday evening, the IMF mission for the first time said that it is concerned about the customs and fiscal administration as the projected taxes are not collected despite the economic growth and the rise in imports. If in such conditions they ask increasing the taxes, which would result in rises in the prices of products and services, so as to compensate for the lack of professionalism and the corruption, we should allow them to administer the customs and tax services in continuation,” said Marian Lupu.
He also said that the demand to discharge the prosecutor general is unfounded and anticonstitutional. “The raider attacks were an invention, a pretext to attack the prosecutor general and seek his dismissal. The topic of raider attacks was already forgotten,” said Marian Lupu. He added that the report on raider attacks rendered by Prime Minister Vlad Filat did not contain proofs of the unsatisfactory work done by the Prosecutor General’s Office, while some of the MPs attack the prosecutor because they pursue certain goals, including personal.
