The indexation of pensions of judges and prosecutors should be limited. The subject requires examination in the context of President Igor Dodon's proposal to index pensions twice a year. The statement belongs to Socialist MP Vladimir Odnostalco. The parliamentarian claims that the pensions of some judges and prosecutors constitute tens of thousands of lei and this is not fair towards the other pensioners from the Republic of Moldova. Furthermore, the MP says that this subject must be tackled very carefully not to violate human rights so that the Republic of Moldova does not lose other cases at the European Court of Human Rights, IPN reports.

Vladimir Odnostalco claims that a few bills have been prepared, but have not yet been made public. One of the solutions would be to cut pensions, because holders of big pensions in the Republic of Moldova receive pensions larger than the contributions they have made to the social security fund.

"If a person draws a pension of 20 thousand lei, he/she does not have the moral right to claim the general, twice a year indexation that is proposed. This is a solution to the problem, but this issue needs to be addressed scrupulously, for if we start pension cuts and limitations, we set a precedent, "Vladimir Odnostalco stressed on "Glavnîi vopros" show, NTV Moldova.

Economic expert Veaceslav Ionita believes that judges and prosecutors may be offered the opportunity not to pay taxes higher than for five average salaries, but to receive pensions only five times higher than the average pension in the Republic of Moldova. The expert says that the Social Fund is formed in such a way that privileges are granted to about 8% of the population. "We have to balance the pension system: you pay a lot, you receive a big pension, but of only 40%, not 75% of the salary," said the expert.
