About US$55 million in the next five years will be invested in the energy efficiency of public buildings in the Republic of Moldova, in the modernization of the thermal energy supply system and in emergency response measures. The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the draft law on the ratification of the loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the implementation of the Sustainable Transition Through Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov, 46 schools across the country will be thermally insulated within this project. The windows and doors will be replaced, the heating and lighting systems will be modernized. Heat pumps and photovoltaic panels will be installed to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
The project also provides for the installation of approximately 350 individual heat points and the reconfiguration of the thermal energy supply network of the centralized system.
It is estimated that the works to be carried out will lead to a maximum 65% reduction in energy consumption in the buildings concerned. “Through the planned measures, we will contribute to significant savings in energy resources, but also to the improvement of the conditions for learning for thousands of students,” stated the minister.
The Sustainable Transition Through Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project has a total budget of US$54.5 million, of which US$50 million is the loan from the IBRD and US$4.5 million is the grant provided by the Multi-Donor Trust Fund “Moldova Growth, Resilience and Opportunities for Well-being”.
The project will run between 2024 and 2029 and will be managed by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects.
