The investor changed up its mind and will not give money to place signs on the streets in Chisinau. Councilor Oleg Cernei, who informed Info-Prim Neo's reporter about this, said the causes why the investor made such a decision are not known.
Petru Gontea, the head of the Public Amenities Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council, said the buildings in Chisinau have not been numbered since 2005. The names of the streets have not been indicated since the same year. It was planned to put about 2,000 signs in the municipality of Chisinau in 2010. Many of the signs have been stolen or removed. A sum of over 1 million lei is needed to make and install road signs in Chisinau.
Many buildings do not have numbers, while many streets do not have their name indicated. The Chisinau residents often encounter difficulties in finding a street or a house, not speaking about the guests of the capital city. Plates with the house number and street name exist mainly on Stephan the Great Boulevard.
According to Petru Gontea, in 2009 the municipal authorities were to receive a grant to set up signs on the streets. The works began, but a consensus could not be reached and they were stopped. “We presented all the information about the streets that were to be numbered to the Chisinau City Hall, but the works were postponed for unknown reasons.” Gontea voiced hope that the woks will be resumed in 2010.
The last time that the Chisinau Council allocated money for buying signs (500,000 lei) was in 2005.
