The Party of Socialists’ candidate for mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said the score he got in elections shows that the residents of Chisinau want a change to the better in the capital city. He made the statements in a press briefing after over 90% of the votes had been counted, IPN reports.

Ion Ceban said he is convinced that he will compete in the runoffs and called on the inhabitants of Chisinau to be more active in the elections that will take place in two weeks. “The score we got is very good,” he stated.

Ion Cebann invited his likely opponnet in the runoffs Andrei Nastase, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, to take part in daily debates during May 22 and June 1. “I’m sure this is beneficial for the residents of Chisinau. We must present the problems and solutions,” stated Ion Ceban.

With 96% of the votes counted in the municipality of Chisinau, the Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban polled 41.19% of the ballot, while the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase – 31.9%.

The candidate who gains more than half of the votes wins the elections. If no one gathers the necessary number of votes, runoffs are held in two weeks for the two candidates who obtained most of the votes.
