Ion Ceban, the candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), said it was a good election campaign and the emphases were shifted from politics and geopolitics to the administration of the city. “I hope the result will be the expected one,” Ion Ceban stated in a news conference held after the closing of polling places, IPN reports.
The Socialist candidate thanked all those who today chose not to stay at home, but to go and vote. He thanked his team and called on those who are at polling places to be maximally attentive and to monitor the vote count in the most qualitative way.
Ion Ceban said he will be waiting for vote count at the PSRM’s head office where President Igor Dodon is also present.
Ceban also said that his team is prepared for any scenario, but voiced hope that the voters made a correct choice and the election outcome will be the expected one.
More than 248,000 voters in the municipality of Chisinau took part in the mayoral runoffs. This is over 39% of the voters on the electoral registers.
There is no minimum turnout of voters required for the runoff vote to be validated. The candidate who gains the largest number of votes emerges victorious. The elected mayor will hold office for a year, until the local general mayoral elections of 2019.
