The warrant for the home arrest of suspended police officer Ion Perju, who is charged with the death of a demonstrator during last April's violence, has been extended today by the Buiucani District Court for another 90 days, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Prosecutor Valeriu Mosneaga asked for the extension by arguing that the reasons for the arrest remain valid; that is, the arrest is to prevent Ion Perju from interfering with the investigation, putting pressure on witnesses or from destroying evidence.
Judge Galina Moscalciuc granted the extension despite Perju's lawyer Anatolie Ceachir describing the request as unfounded. The next court sitting is scheduled for August 16.
Ion Perju, from the General Police Commissariat, was arrested by prosecutors this April, exactly one year after reported police abuse resulted in the death of a young demonstrator, Valeriu Boboc.
