The people must take part in the referendum, take the ballot paper, but choose the NO option, said the head of the Moldova Platform Irina Vlah. According to her, the October 20 referendum is a political game planned by Maia Sandu. The head of state proposed holding the referendum so that during the election campaign the people would talk not about the quality of governance, but about geopolitical preferences, IPN reports.

Irina Vlah described the October 20 national referendum as totally inopportune. According to the ex-Bashkan of Gagauzia, the plebiscite is a waste of money and is meant to divert public attention from the way the country has been managed during Maia Sandu’s four-year mandate.

“This referendum is a political action. Maia Sandu intentionally invented this referendum because she knows that her rating has decreased. 2024 is an election year and, according to the law, only the presidential election must be held this year. Maia Sandu decided to use this referendum to keep her mandate. I’m sure that this referendum is not appropriate at this time. Thanks to this referendum we will not join the European Union. We lose money. The referendum costs 40 million lei, which is a lot. Another 20 million will be spent on postal voting. The referendum was invented by Maia Sandu so that the people do not ask questions about the promises she did not fulfil. She does not want the people to ask questions about the exodus of the population, the closure of schools,” Irina Vlah stated in the talk show “Resumé” on RliveTV channel.

Irina Vlah said that all citizens should participate in both the presidential elections and the referendum so that there is a higher voter turnout, but her supporters should choose the NO option in the plebiscite.

“Of course, we all should take part in these elections. We all have to take two ballots. On the ballot where the list of candidates will be, the people must choose the candidate they want. I hope it will be a person who will promote peace. On the second ballot, I propose that the citizens put the NO stamp. This referendum does not change anything. After this referendum we will not be part of the European Union. I’m not against changing the Constitution, but not in such a way. If this year we have a presidential election, it must only be a presidential election. If someone wants to change the Constitution, they can do it through a referendum or through Parliament, but not in an election year,” said the head of the Moldova Platform Irina Vlah.

The national constitutional referendum will take place on October 20, simultaneously with the presidential election. In the referendum, the people will be asked: “Are you for amending the Constitution so as to enshrine the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union in it?”. On Wednesday, following the meeting of the Republican Council of the PSRM, the party announced that it will boycott the referendum.
