Four employees of the state-run Orhei Forestry Company were searched in a case of embezzlement of timber of the managed forest fund. The National Anticorruption Center said that the suspects, who held managerial positions at the company, including a former director of this, allegedly implemented a criminal scheme, IPN reports.
The officials are suspected of having entered erroneous data regarding the volume and category of wood extracted from the forest fund. This way they obtained surplus that they sold illegally.
It was also established that, abusing their public posts, they sold wood to people close to employees of the Orhei Forest Company at reduced prices. After that, they resold it to citizens at high prices.
Following the searches, two people were detained.
