President Nicolae Timofti said it’s impossible to immediately call early elections now as there are no legal conditions allowing this. The announcement was made by the President’s spokesman Vlad Ţurcanu in a news conference given on April 4 after a group of Communist MPs filed a petition to the Presidential Office, demanding announcing early elections, IPN reports.

In the name of Nicolae Timofti, Vlad Turcanu said that the early elections will take place only in the conditions stipulated by the Constitution, only if Parliament does not give a vote of confidence to the new Government within 45 days of the first vote and only after the candidate or candidates for premiership are rejected at least two times.

The spokesman also said that the Communist MPs who were allowed to enter the Presidential Office by the secretary general of the President’s staff Ion Paduraru showed lack of respect for the presidential institution and its employees. They insulted them, showing an inappropriate and aggressive behavior.

”The head of state considers that the Communist MPs abused their status and violated public order,” said the spokesman, adding that Nicolae Timofti has never avoided meeting the lawmakers when such requests were made and he is ready to have discussions with any elected official, in compliance with the law and in a civilized way.

Members and sympathizers of the PCRM staged a number of protests, demanding calling early elections.
