The changes that took place in the public libraries in Moldova during the past six years and the new law on libraries that is designed to ensure the sustainable and modern development of public libraries will be promoted as part of the campaign “It’s My Library!”. The initiative was launched on June 14, IPN reports.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said that owing to the Novateca program, the libraries in Moldova were outfitted with modern computers, while the personnel attended training courses at the National and Regional Professional Formation Centers. “We speak about a genuine revolution in the activity of libraries in the  Republic of Moldova, which became cultural, educational and even social centers by the services they provide to the population,” stated the minister.

The participants went on a tour of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”, where they were presented all the modern services provided by this, such as sign language lessons for deaf and mute children, English lessons, a robotic club, use of applications on tablet PCs and FabLab demonstrations.

During the last few years, over 1,000 public libraries joined the Novateca network, being outfitted with modern equipment. Also, over 1,500 librarians were trained at the 38 National and Regional Professional Formation Centers, attending formal, non-formal and informal education courses.

The Novateca program forms part of the Global Libraries initiative whose goal is to facilitate public access to information and communication technologies through libraries.
