Moldova will receive $1.4 million from the Japanese Social Development Fund to prevent hepatites B and C, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center for Health Care Research and Policy. The Prevention of Viral Hepatites B and C Project will be implemented in four municipalities and six districts of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region, during the next two years. It aims to increase the knowledge of young people, migrants, prostitutes, homosexuals and drug users about how the viral hepatites are transmitted. The money will be also used to promote counseling services and voluntary testing for HIIV and hepatites B and C and to develop a pilot voluntary blood donation program and a quality blood service. The project will involve representatives of the local public administrations, nongovernmental organizations and community leaders. They will formulate and carry out action plans to distribute information about the viral hepatites B and C at the community level. The project will be implemented by the Center for Health Care Research and Policy, a nongovernmental organization working in the area of health.
