The Jewish community of Moldova commemorated the victims of the Holocaust. The ceremony that involved government officials and representatives of embassies started with a religious ceremony, Info-Prim Neo reports. Alexandru Bilinkis, co-chairman of the Jewish community, said that today is an important day that shouldn’t be forgotten. “There were killed thousands of people. Thousands of families were separated only because the Jews were considered an inferior social stratum. This day should be commemorated so that such tragedies do not repeat,” he stated. Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the whole world render homage to the victims of the Holocaust, which was one of the most serious crimes against humanity. He informed that he made an order to institute the Museum of the Holocaust inside the National Museum of Archeology and History. Speaker Marian Lupu said that this day is important not only for the Jewish community, but also for the whole world. “Our society should be built on such principles as respect, esteem and tolerance,” he stated. Israeli Ambassador to Moldova Oren David said the Holocaust marked the whole world as there were exterminated over 6 million people. He stressed that if Israel had been founded 5 or 10 years earlier, millions of Jewish ethnics would have been saved. On January 27, 1945, there were released the prisoners of the most dreadful Nazi concentration camp, at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
