A judge from Drochia was sentenced to seven years in jail, fined 160,000 lei and banned from holding public posts for a ten-year period for passive corruption. This asked over €7,000 for settling a dispute, IPN reports.
The criminal case was started in 2016, after a woman from Moldova who settled in Italy complained about the corruptible acts of the judge. This asked €200 for a consultation about the way of claiming ownership rights in court. Later, he said he will examine the case and will adopt a decision in favor of the woman for the sum of €6,200.
After the woman transferred the whole sum to the judge’s account, this passed a judgment ruling that the woman had the right to own 75.26% of the property’s value, but didn’t pronounce on the lien placed on this, arguing the money transmitted earlier wasn’t sufficient to fully resolve the dispute and asking for another 1,000 from the woman.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
