The judge of the Rascani office of the Court of Chisinau municipality Oleg Melniciuc, who was arrested on unjust enrichment charges on June 27, was freed from the remand unit of the National Anticorruption Center. Head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari has told IPN that the judge will be investigated outside remand.

The prosecutors didn’t ask for warrant for the arrest of the judge as they believe there is no danger that this will influence the investigation. Also, the Superior Council of Magistracy consented to the judge’s investigation, not yet to his arrest.

“During 72 hours, there have been identified no new proofs in addition to the existing ones. We considered making a new approach is not reasonable. The period of 72 hours was enough to manage particular evidence that is important for the case,” stated Viorel Morari.

The judge is suspected of owning property whose value is much higher than the legal incomes he declared. Oleg Melniciuc was among the candidates for president of the Court of Chisinau who were rejected by President Igor Dodon. Earlier, Oleg Melniciuc served as president of the Rascani District Court of Chisinau.
