The Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) accepted acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu’s request and ordered the suspension of a judge from post. So far, Dumitru Robu asked the Council’s permission for investigating two judges, including the judge who was suspended today, November 30, IPN reports.
Contacted by IPN for details, prosecutor Mariana Cherpec, who is in charge of media relations at the Prospector General’s Office, said the institution cannot reveal the name of the judge and the court where this works. She made reference to personal data and to the presumption of innocence.
The press reported that the judge suspended by the SCM today is the former president of the Bălți Appeals Court Alexandru Gheorghieș. The judge and two more persons were charged with unjust enrichment following searches carried out at the judge’s home and in his office. The judge was remanded in custody.
