Former President of Moldova Mircea Snegur, former Speaker Dumitru Motpan, former Premiers Dumitru Braghis and Ion Ciubuc and 13 other known persons accuse Judge Lilia Vasilevici of falsifying a court decision and ask the Supreme Council of Magistrates not to tolerate such examples, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In an open letter to the Supreme Council of Magistrates, the signatories say since 2005 they had been summonsed as witnesses in the so-called Pasat case. “Even if we gave testimony for the prosecution, none of us said something that could confirm Valeriu Pasat’s guilt.
“However, the decision passed by Judge Lilia Vasielvici, of Chisinau’s Centru district court, on January 17, 2006 said Valeriu Pasat’s guilt is proven, including by the testimonies of the witnesses,” the authors of the letter say.
The signatories say that in June 2009 they sent two letters to the former administration of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, denying the assertions stated in the decision and asking that the judge be held accountable for falsifying a court decision.
“More than half a year has passed, but we have not been yet informed about the steps taken by the Supreme Council of Magistrates in this case, which is a great shame for the Moldovan legal system.”
The signatories call on the members of the Council not to tolerate such ‘examples’ that make Moldova be ashamed at the Court in Strasbourg. “You must take measures to remove those who violate the principle of the preeminence of the law and the independence of the judiciary.”
“In particular, we want to know what penalties will be imposed on Judge Vasilevici, who tried to make us accomplices in accusing an innocent person,” says the letter signed by Mircea Snegur, Dumitru Braghis, Vergil Botnarevski, Ion Nanii, Timofei Donica, Ion Ciubuc, Valeriu Laur, Pavel Puiu, Gheorghe Popa, Sergiu Ciobanu, Serghei Josan, Valeriu Marza, Ion Panici, Ion Popov, Vladimir Tarlapan, and Dumitru Motpan.
