The situation in prisons is inappropriate and there is a risk that the ECHR will determine violations of prisoners' rights, Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said at a meeting with personnel of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions. “I will not tolerate and will not encourage acts of corruption, while the punishments for the violation and non-fulfillment of the duties will be strict, up to dismissals,” Alexandru Tanase said, quoited in a communique from the Ministry. The official announced he will be making visits to penitentiaries all over Moldova during the next days to see the situation there and offer solutions to improve the detention conditions. In order to decrease the number of cases over the detention conditions submitted to the European Court of Human Rights, the minister proposed implementing long-term policies that will envision the construction of a prison outside Chisinau to replace penitentiary No. 13 and of remand centers that will be administered by the penitentiary institutions, Info-Prim Neo reports.
