Klaus Werner Iohannis has won the presidential elections in Romania. According to the results presented at 9am, after counting 96.50% of the votes, Iohannis polled 54.66% of the ballot, while his opponent Victor Viorel Ponta – 45.33%. In Moldova, more people holding Romanian nationality took part in the elections compared with the first round of voting, IPN reports.
In some of Moldova’s settlements, the people voted relatively smoothly, but in Chisinau, Ialoveni and Hancesti the voters had to queue up for several hours in order to be able to cast their ballots.
Klaus Werner Iohannis is a Romanian politician of German origin who is a teacher of physicist by occupation. Since 2000, he has served as the mayor of Sibiu municipality. He was reelected in 2004, 2008 and 2012, every time on behalf of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania.
