The crisis situation in Moldova may be solved only through responsible dialog involving all the political forces, stated Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis, who urged Moldovan politicians to remain calm and self-restrained and give priority to political stability in this period.
“Moldova’s stability is essential to the continuation of the European course of this state, which has committed to fulfilling an ample process of reforms that include rule of law and good governance, based on commitments under the Association Agreement with the European Union”, reads a statement from the Cotroceni Palace.
The Romanian Government has also called on all political forces to respect democratic processes and the will of the people as expressed in the February 2019 elections.
“The Romanian Government is closely watching the political developments in Moldova. (...) The citizens of Moldova need a politically negotiated solution that ensures prosperity, the continuation of reforms, and the consolidation of the pro-European course”, it said in a press release.
Earlier today the Constitutional Court of Moldova suspended president Igor Dodon’s powers allowing acting prime minister Pavel Filip to dissolve Parliament in his stead and call snap elections on September 6.
