An information and access center for information technologies was inaugurated today, August 14, as part of a project of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (MITC), in collaboration with the Korean Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) and Korea’s National Information Society Agency (NIA), reports Info-Prim Neo. According to Information Technology and Communications Minister Pavel Filip, the center offers several instruction tools for potential beneficiaries, is furnished with video and audio equipment, a teleconference system, and a public high-speed internet access room with 100 seats. “We established a dialogue with our Korean partners last autumn, when we talked about this project for the first time, and we have advanced rather quickly, being able to inaugurate this center today. Moreover, this morning we signed a memorandum with their Ministry of Public Administration and Security, through which the Korean party will be able to consult us in computerization policies and in the implementation of e-Governance. Additionally, the assistance will be oriented towards diminishing the negative effects of the computerization”, the Minister specified. Korean MOPAS Deputy Minister Seo Pileon said that the opening of the center fits into the context of the 20th anniversary of Korea’s diplomatic relations with Moldova. “We are willing to pass our knowledge and experience on to our colleagues and partners from Moldova, and hope that this collaboration yields very good results and consolidates our bilateral relations”, stated the Korean official. Premier Vlad Filat, who attended the inauguration, pointed out that the center’s value surpasses the investments made towards its infrastructure and equipment, since it is a center of experience and knowledge transfer, which is very important, taking into account the role of information technology in the policies promoted by the Government. “Moldova has all the necessary ingredients, including staff and gifted youth, for the development of the ICT sector, for the creation of a competitive informational society in Moldova”, highlighted Premier Vlad Filat. The MITC provided the space necessary for the project, and the Korean party invested over $200,000 in buying equipment, installations and furniture. Korea is a global leader in developing information technologies, according to the International Telecommunications Union classification.
