National Army soldiers removed the last batch of solid pesticides from Leova district. The 38 tonnes of hazardous waste kept at the central depot in Iargara will be destroyed by burning in the Polish town Dabrowa Gornicza, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the National Army, the pesticides were gathered in seven settlements of Leova district in 2006. This week, the operational group of the National Army is in Cahul district. It is taking part in the repacking and marking of another over 60 tonnes of pesticides that will be transported to Poland.

The activities to remove and destroy the pesticides in Moldova are carried out within the NATO Partnership for Peace Project on the Destruction of Pesticides and Hazardous Chemicals, with the financial support of the NATO/PpP Trust Fund.
