President Igor Dodon promulgated the law on the Government reform. “I have always pleaded for reducing the number of high-ranking functionaries as it is not right to keep the same figures as 25 years ago,” the Head of Stature wrote on his Facebook page, IPN reports.
According to Igor Dodon, since obtaining its independence, the Republic of Moldova has lost almost one third of the population, while the number of functionaries remained the same. “This misbalanced should have been put right. An important step in this regard is taken by this law. I will insist that the number of members of Parliament should be reduced from 101 to 71,” said the President.
The Government reform was adopted in the final reading two weeks ago. The only political post remains that of minister. The post of deputy minister is excluded, while the administrative duties at ministries will be fulfilled by secretaries of state. Also, the Prime Minister will have the right to modify the number of ministries by a simplified procedure. Earlier, Pavel Filip said the number of ministries will be cut from 16 to nine.
