Lawyer arrested for taking bribe

A lawyer was arrested on influence peddling charges after he received a 90,000 lei bribe from a man accused of theft. The money was presumably intended for his mother, a prosecutor in Calarasi, who would stop criminal proceedings in the theft case, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Anticorruption Center said in a press release that the lawyer threw the money away and tried to escape arrest on his moped, but only caused an accident. The 65,000 lei, branded “CCCEC bribe”, was found near the suspect’s vehicle and was taken by the Anticorruption Center officers. Previously, under their supervision, a sum of 25,000 lei was delivered to the suspect. Criminal proceedings have been started against the lawyer. If he is found guilty, he risks a fine of up to 60,000 lei or 2 to 6 years in jail.
