The chairman of “Pro Ortodoxia” Association Ghenadie Valuta said he will challenge the decision of the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring of Equality, which obliged him to make public apologies for discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation.

In a news conference at IPN, the Association’s leader related that he took part in a TV program centering on homosexuality. After the program, Ghenadie Valuta sent a message to persons from the LGBT community, which the latter considered discriminatory and notified the Council. Later, Ghenadie Valuta took part in an event and splashed holy water on the road used by the LGBT parade. In this case as well, the homosexuals declared that they were discriminated.

“This Council will become a cudgel for terrorizing the Church,” said the chairman of “Pro Ortodoxia” Association, who is decided to go to court.

The Association’s jurist Radu Busila said the Council’s decision is unfounded and insults the religious denominations as the road on which the parade went is public and anyone can do what they want on it, while Ghenadie Valuta’s speech wasn’t discriminatory. By the adopted decision, the Council violates the right to free expression.

The jurist also said that this decision may create a dangerous precedent because all the priests will be held accountable when they say that some of the persons are sinful.

The Association “Pro Ortodoxia” sent a letter to the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova and his Holiness Vladimir, asking that they intervene to support the representatives of the Church.
