The actions taken to corrupt MPs are extremely regrettable and show that those who are behind them reached a state of agony, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1. The Premier underlined that the competent institutions must do their job so that all those involved in corruption schemes are punished, IPN reports.
According to Iurie Leanca, the corrupting of lawmakers is a large-scale act that can destabilize the internal situation in Moldova. “I demand penalizing those who are behind these schemes. I hope the competent bodies will soon make public their findings. I want to believe that our MPs understand exactly what the stake is and through what situation we go,” said the Premier.
Two persons are suspected of trying to bribe an MP of the Pro-European Coalition so that he left his parliamentary group. A sum of US$250,000 was to be transmitted to him through an intermediary. The National Anticorruption Center and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office didn’t reveal the name of the MP.
The suspects were caught in the act of giving the money to the intermediary. One of them is a former employee of the Ministry of the Interior. It’s not yet known who the money belongs to.
