Valeriu Strelet, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group, says his group will come together to decide whether to participate in an extraordinary Parliament's meeting called by the Communists to consider their proposal to hold a referendum on the Russia-centered Customs Union.
Personally Valeriu Strelet says he thinks it is better for the Liberal-Democrats to attend the meeting and oppose the proposal rather than to boycott the meeting altogether. “From the Parliament's rostrum we can speak in favor of our own projects”, asserted Strelet.
He added that the Alliance's Council could also assemble to provide an opportunity for all the partners in the ruling coalition to express their viewpoints and reach a common decision.
On a different subject, Valeriu Strelt revealed, after visiting the United States last week, that Moldova could be removed from the scope of the Jackson-Vanik amendment in the course of this fall, and more communication is needed to achieve this. Strelet stressed that it's very important that Moldovan politicians communicate directly with their American colleagues, avoiding intermediaries, because he saw that the media were distorting realities in a pursuit of sensationalism.
