Liberal-Democratic MP Liliana Palihovici, who is the deputy chairwoman of the PLDM, called upon the judges of the Constitutional Court (CC) to quit. In the April 25 sitting of Parliament, the lawmaker said that they do not have the moral right to be judges because they adopted a political decision based on suspicions, not evidence, IPN reports.
“The April 22 decision of the Constitutional Court, which astounded society, is definitive and irrevocable. Even if we implement all the decisions of the CC, confirming thus the respect for the Constitution, I think that Parliament must not neglect such a situation,” said Liliana Palihovici.
She also said that by that decision, the constitutional judges violated the provisions of the supreme law as they didn’t respect the presumption of innocence. The judges gave a verdict based on the censure motion by which the Government was dismissed, which was a political motion. “The censure motion is the highest form of political responsibility. The reasons for which the motion was passed were political in character and there was no evidence. The CC judges do not have the moral right to continue holding their seats. They arbitrarily deprived a person from the right to apply for the post of Prime Minister, in the absence of proofs,” stated Liliana Palihovici.
On April 22, the Constitutional Court ruled that the President’s decree to designate Vlad Filat as a candidate for premiership was unconstitutional.
