The Liberal Party will request the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the constitutionality of the Tax Code provision that allows private individuals to direct up to 2% of the paid incomes tax to NGOs of public utility and to religious institutions, IPN reports.
The party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference that by the given law, 40 million lei of the contributions paid by salary earners will be used for the election campaign of the Liberal Democratic Party, through the agency of NGOs loyal to this party.
Liberal MP Gheorghe Brega said he possesses information that the local authorities in a number of districts of the country already received the list of nongovernmental organizations and religious institutions to which the money must be transferred.
Referring to the plebiscites held in Gagauzia on February 2, Mihai Ghimpu said those involved in their organization must be arrested and brought to justice, while Bashkan Mihail Formuzal must be dismissed from the Cabinet. The Liberal Party will soon put forward a bill to this effect.
