The Liberal Youth have staged a flash-mob in central Chisinau under the slogan “History can’t be divided according to Euro-standards” to protest the merging of the History of Romanians and World History courses, Info-Prim Neo reports.
They expressed their message through a little play enacted in the Public Garden Stefan cel Mare. The young people impersonated historical figures like Stephen the Great, Vlad the Impaler, Mircea the Old and great figures of the world history like Napoleon Bonaparte, Joan of Arc and other.
As those playing Vlad the Impaler, Decebal and Alexandru Ioan Cuza stood aside, Ianos Cusnir, a Liberal Youth leader, explained that by excluding those three historical figures from the sketch, the protesters wanted to show how the Moldovan authorities deprived students of important information about national history.
“The measure was adopted way too early, because we don’t have enough political stability for these reforms. The EU recommended merging the history courses, but didn’t impose it. Pupils must follow both courses, but national history should stand out”, said Diana Cujba, member of the Liberal Youth.
The protesters announced they would organize other similar events if the Ministry of Education didn’t change its decision.
Previously, Minister fo Education Mihail Sleahtitchi announced that the new history course would include 50% world history, 45% history of Romanians and 5% local history.
