The Liberal Party blames the Pro-European Coalition for stopping the financing of the decentralization reform by the governments of the U.S. and Sweden. The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference that the reason for the halt is the delay in implementing the Law on Local Public Finances. According to him, this points to the commission of frauds, IPN reports.
Mihai Ghimpu said that Parliament adopted the decentralization strategy in 2012. Under the strategy’s plan of action, the authorities were to adopt this law in the first half of last year so that it started to be implemented on January 1, 2014. But it was passed last yearend and is to be implemented nationwide starting from 2015.
According to the Liberals, a large part of the money allocated by Sweden and the United States for implementing the activities defined in the plan of action, for different analyses and expert advice was appropriated. “A lot was invested – tens of million euros for consultancy and assessments. This money disappears in sand, while the government pretends to know nothing. They steal money of the U.S. and of the EU too. The reforms are done by force. The glass is already overfull for the Moldovans and for some of the western countries and the U.S.,” said Liberal MP Corina Fusu.
The Liberals consider that the Pro-European Coalition endangers Moldova’s European course and the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU as well as the financial support from the United States and Sweden.
