The Liberal parliamentary group requested the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the constitutionality of a number of Customs Code provisions that, according to the Liberals, allow tax evasion through duty-free shops, IPN reports.

The Liberal lawmakers said that by authorizing duty-free shops to work at the border crossing point set up on the bridge in Dubasari, based on the challenged provisions, the constitutional norms that guarantee the inalienable character of Moldova’s territory were defied.

The MPs argued that the budgetary balance, the economic security of the state and the principle of competition protection are thus seriously affected. They asked suspending the work of the duty-free shops until the issue is clarified.
