Liberals propose resetting parliaments' count from independence

The Parliament's Legal commission approved a bill by the Liberal Party which proposes that the current series of parliaments should be numbered starting from Moldova's independence to separate them from the legislatures of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. If the bill is adopted, the current Parliament will be the 8th, instead of the 19th. Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu argued the Parliament established in 1990 should be counted as the first, since this was the first legislative body of independent Moldova.
