Liberal MPs put forward a draft decision by which Russia is asked to immediately and unconditionally withdraw its troops and munitions from Moldova’s territory. They make reference to the situation created in Crimea, saying it was military aggression by Russia against Ukraine, IPN reports.

According to the informative note to the draft decision, on October 21, 1994 Moldova and Russia signed the agreement on the legal status of Transnistria, which says that the Russian troops will be present on Moldova’s territory on a temporary basis and will be pulled out within three years of the coming into force of the accord. At the Istanbul Summit of November 19, 1999, Russia pledged to withdraw its military troops by the end of 2002.

“The military aggression against Ukraine, by the annexation of Crimea by Russia, represents a serious violation of the international law. It should be noted that Russia, based on bilateral agreements signed with Ukraine, deployed its fleet in Sevastopol town. The separatist groups supported by Russia adopted an illegal act whereby Crimea is joined to Russia and held post-factum a referendum on the issue,” it is said in the draft decision.

According to the Liberal Party, taking into account the fact that Russia’s 14th Army is illegally present on Moldova’s territory and the military aggression in Crimea, the Russian troops and munitions must be withdrawn from the Transnistrian region so as to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
