The National Museum of History hosted an exhibition entitled “Lithuania in a postal parcel” that was mounted by the Embassy of Lithuania in Moldova on February 14. The exhibit consists of images and videos of the most beautiful and valuable natural and cultural sites of Lithuania that were included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The exhibition will continue until March 10, IPN reports.
Lithuania’s Ambassador to Moldova Rimantas Latakas said his country became a member of UNESCO in 1991. Since then, tens of cultural and natural sites were included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. “For everyone, it is a big honor to have objects of cultural and natural heritage included in the world heritage. The goal of the exhibition is to familiarize other countries with these values. I would like to mention our common inheritance with Moldova, Belarus, Estonia, Norway, the Russian Federation, namely the Struve Geodetic Arc that stretches from Norway to the Black Sea, going through ten states, on a distance of 2,822 kilometers,” stated the diplomat.
The exhibition was also mounted in the United States, Portugal, France, the Czech Republic and other states. Rimantas Latakas said he would like this to be also popular with the Moldovan public that would enjoy finding something new about Lithuania and would want to visit this country.
Deputy Minister of Culture Pavel Postica said a people exists by its cultural heritage, manifests itself through this and is proud of this. Lithuania has ten objects included in the UNESCO Heritage. “We are glad for your people as you have exceptional values that were recognized,” he stated.
The exhibits include pictures about the Vilnius Historic Center, Courland Isthmus, the Kernavė archeological site, Zuvintas biosphere reserve and others.
