Lithuania will invest US$20m in Moldova

Lithuania plans to invest about US$20 million in Moldova’s agroindustrial sector, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca said after a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Audronius Azubalis, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This figure points to the scope of the project and the number of workplaces that will be created. The agroindustrial sector will provide competitive advantages and we will be able to benefit from them. I hope this project will be implemented successfully,” the official said in a news conference on Thursday. Iurie Leanca also said that the meeting with Audronius Azubalis centered on the bilateral relations and they ascertained a positive trend. His counterpart stated that Lithuania supports Moldova in its European integration aspirations and wants to have friendly relations with it. He stressed that when Lithuania held the chairmanship of the OSCE, Moldova made effort to settle the Transistrian conflict. Asked about the proposed federalization of the country, Audronius Azubalis said that such a decision should be taken at talks and should be thoroughly analyzed. The Lithuanian foreign minister has paid a working visit to Moldova on April 25-26 at the invitation of his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca. The program of the visit includes bilateral meetings with President Nicolae Timofti and Head of Parliament Marian Lupu. The two ministers will also take part in the third meeting of the Moldovan-Lithuanian European integration cooperation commission that will center on aspects of sector cooperation.
