The highest tax rate on residential property in 2017 will be 0.4%, up from 0.3%. The lowest tax rate remained 0.05%. For non-residential and agricultural property, the lowest tax rate will be 0.1%, while the highest rate 0.3%. The rates are set by the local public authorities, IPN reports.

For the first time, the local public authorities will have the right to decide the property tax exemption for pensioners, persons with disabilities and other categories of people defined by the legislation.

The exemptions envisioned in the Tax Code will be used until the local public authorities take the decisions to modify these. Currently, the exemption for pensioners and persons with disabilities in the municipality of Chisinau is at most 380,000 lei, while in Balti 156,000 lei.
