Ion Luchianov ranked 11th in the 3000m steeplechase of the European Athletics Championship, which is taking place in Helsinki, Finland, reports Info-Prim Neo.
The athlete completed the run in 8 minutes and 42.06 seconds, a modest result compared to the one he scored in the qualification round. Despite being one of the favorites for this competition, Ion Luchianov could not match his performance from the previous European Championship, where he won the bronze for the same discipline.
Moldovan athlete Natalia Artyc will enter the competition on Saturday, at discus throw. On the following day Zalina Marghiev will fight for a medal in the hammer throw final.
Almost all of the athletes participating in this championship are part of Moldova’s national team to the Olympics in London. The ones who met the qualification criteria are Ion Luchianov, Iaroslav Musinschi, Roman Prodius, Zalina and Mariana Marghieva, Serghei Marghiev, Natalia Cerches, Natalia Artyc, Elena Popescu and Olesea Cojuhari.
