Democrat leader Marian Lupu is suggesting the next attempt to hold a presidential election should be held no earlier than in one month. “I think the law will be respected if we set the election in 30 days or even in the first half of December”, said Marian Lupu. Marian Lupu revealed that in the next few days the Eurointegration Alliance should meet for discussions, in the absence of the group of three deputies that recently left the Communist Party. “Today or tomorrow we should meet to discuss clear procedures, to analyze the report of the parliamentary Commission on Presidential Elections in the next plenary sitting (on November 18), and set another date for the election. We should reach a compromise and identify a candidate who is able to collect 61 votes”, Lupu told a press briefing. He stated that a compromise couldn't be reached with Igor Dodon because he insisted on nominating Zinaida Greceanyi. “Igor Dodon made some pretentious statements declaring the three deputies were ready to give their votes in order to overcome the political stalemate, only to advance their conditions and requirements”. Lupu went on to criticize Dodon for statements which he found “a little bit brazen”. “He said he thought the Alliance should disappear like a bad nightmare and that he would further work to destroy it. But such statements cannot help to create a positive dialogue between the three and the Alliance”. Lupu stressed that if the Dodon group continued to insist on Greceanyi as their common nominee then it meant they pursued a narrow interest of promoting themselves. “Their scenario isn't clear; it's not clear where they want to get. They should set their goals more clearly and pay more attention to their discourse”. As to whether Dodon had a hidden agenda, Lupu said: “What Dodon is up to can be anything. In 2009, there was also much rumor about the Democratic Party, but we've demonstrated that we are an independent party and not someone's scenario”. The Democrat leader added that the Alliance should stop exchanging accusations because the risk of snap elections was still in the air; instead, the Alliance should negotiate with the Dodon group, while not ignoring the Communist Party either.
