“Germany is a strong and important ally of the Republic of Moldova on our journey towards the European Union, democracy and prosperity”, declared President Maia Sandu after a meeting in Berlin with the German leadership.
Economic cooperation was addressed in particular during the meeting. “Germany is one of our main trading partners and an important source of investment. We aim to deepen these economic ties”, said the Moldovan president.
Maia Sandu stated that the German leaders support Moldova’s bid for EU membership, so that Moldovans can live in peace, good understanding and prosperity. “Our European aspirations and the reforms we are carrying out were an important theme of today’s discussions. In this context, I invited the federal chancellor Olaf Scholz to Chisinau to see the steps we are taking on our path to modernization”, said Sandu.
She emphasized that Germany stood by us in the crises of the last two years, offering support thanks to which “we improve the quality of life in Moldova, invest in infrastructure, advance reforms and strengthen the security of the state”.
Maia Sandu is on a visit to Germany on May 17 and 18. In addition to the meeting in Berlin, Maia Sandu will also travel to Leipzig to pick up her Robert Blum Award for Democracy.
