The bodies of a woman, 42, and her 15-year-old daughter were found in a Soroca forest. They were beaten into unconsciousness before being burnt alive. A man, 22, is now in custody after confessing to the double murder. Moreover, he is believed to be the perpetrator of another one in 2012.

Police representatives told a news conference today that the woman’s body was found on August 1 in the woods near the village of Dumbraveni, and three days later police found the body of a teenage girl, who was confirmed to be the daughter.

The suspect told the police that shortly after picking up the hitchhiking duo, they “got into a fight”. As the victims tried to escape, he chased them down and beat them until they lost consciousness. The man confessed that he set the women ablaze while they were still alive, after “having sex” with the daughter.

As for the girl disappeared in 2012 in the vicinity of the same village, the man claims that they went together for a bike ride, and then the girl fell so hard that he thought she died, so he panicked and threw her into a pond.

The police indeed found the remains of a human body in the pond and a forensic investigation is now underway.

The 22-year-old faces life imprisonment.
