The body of a 37-year-old man was taken out of a pond situated near Calfa village of Anenii Noi district on February 2. Dorina Sochirca, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the man was from Calfa village and was working as a guard at an irrigation facility. When going home, he decided to shorten the road and went across the pond. The ice was thin and the man fell into the water. Employees of the Calfa mayor's office said the man did not have a family and lived alone. He used to drink and was probably under the influence when the tragedy happened. The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service advises against going on ice as the layer of ice is thicker towards the banks and thinner in the middle. The ten fires that occurred in Moldova yesterday and last night resulted in four deaths. Three of the fires were caused by smoldering cigarettes, while the fourth by an electrical water heater that remained in the receptacle. The victims were men aged between 49 and 91.
