A 40-year-old man on Monday drowned in a lake near Zagarancea village in Ungheni district. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said the case was reported close to 17:00. According to the data received by the 112 operators, the man waded into the water, dived and did not surface. Divers of the Ungheni Rescue and Firefighters Unit searched the place and found the body, IPN reports.

The Inspectorate noted that 30 people, including 5 minors, dived in waterbodies in the country so far this year.

Rescuers repeatedly urge the population to respect the safety rules while swimming. Swimming during the dog days should be avoided. A person who enters the water after prolonged sun exposure can suffer a thermal shock with fatal consequences.

Swimming while intoxicated is also strictly forbidden. Under the influence of alcohol, the blood pressure of the person entering the water can change suddenly and cause loss of consciousness, subsequently leading to tragic cases of drowning.
