Man faces 2 years in jail for stealing taxi radiophones

A Chisinau 20-year-old man faces 2 years in jail after being arrested by the police on suspicion of stealing radio systems from taxicabs. The suspect, caught red-handed, confessed he was picking taxicabs parked at night in poorly lighted places and, after making sure the driver was gone, would empty the cab of the radio system and whatever personal goods inside it. The young man intended to sell the radio systems at the market for 300 lei each. The suspect is now being checked by the police for involvement in other similar offenses. The police recommend the drivers to avoid parking their cars in areas with little street lighting and leaving valuable things inside, and advise them to install alarm systems.
