The Orhei Prosecutor’s Office asked for 17 years in jail for a man accused of raping a minor girl. Recently, the judges accepted the prosecutors’ repeated request and convicted the man, IPN reports, quoting a communique of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Even if the culprit didn’t accept his blame, the prosecutors proved that on July 20 last year, the man, who lived in Rybnitsa town, came to the native village of his wife in Orhei district to take part in a burial. After the funeral, being under the influence of alcohol, he raped the minor daughter of his brother-in-law in the house of his mother-in-law, who looked after the 11-year-old girl. The girl told her uncle what happened and the culprit, who managed to run away, was arrested two days later.
The statistics of the Prosecutor General’s Office show that in 44 of the 223 criminal cases involving children as victims of sexual offenses examined last year, these were sexually abused in the family: in 14 cases - by the biological father, in 16 – by the mother’s partner, while in 14 – by other relatives.
