A Chisinau man, 46, was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment on charges of large-scale fraud and forgery of documents, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release that the man in 2009 forged an identity document of a woman who owned two apartments, which he later used to obtain a false proxy authorizing him to administrate the woman's property, including the power to sell it.
Using the same proxy, the defendant borrowed 43,000 euros from two persons, promising to repay the loan in three months and pledging the two apartments as a collateral.
The prosecutors also found that earlier the man tried to sell one of the apartments, but a vigilant notary notified the law-enforcement about the attempt.
The sentence is appealable.
