The man who in 2011 fired at two Transnistrian border guards, injuring fatally one of them, was sentenced to life imprisonment, IPN reports.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, on September 5, 2011, a resident of Pirita village tried to enter the Transnistrian region avoiding the checkpoints. When he was discovered by border guards near Dubovo village, he fired several shots from a Tokarev pistol at them. As a result, one of the border guards died on the spot, while the other one was seriously hurt.
After the commission of the crime, the 50-year-old man was put on the wanted list. He was arrested in southern Moldova in December 2011.
Recently, the Dubasari Court gave the culprit life for intentional murder, murder attempt, illegal crossing of the state border and illegal bearing of firearms. The sentence is not yet definitive.
In another case, a young Moldovan was hurt mortally by a Russian peacekeeper from the Transnistrian region on January 1, 2012. The military man fled to Russia and wasn’t yet tried.
